Counselling Sessions for Disordered Eating
With over 30 years of personal recovery and professional expertise in the field of eating disorders, I have developed a comprehensive approach to helping my clients achieve lasting freedom. Together, we explore binge prevention strategies and gain a deeper understanding of how food is used as a coping mechanism. My goal is to get to the heart of what each client is coping with, no matter how difficult.
I believe we know when our eating behaviour is ‘off’ and that dieting will not resolve the underlying anxiety. I help my clients go beneath the behaviour to find out what’s really going on, always with compassion and acceptance.
I have a personal mission for helping those who struggle with binging and emotional overeating. I want my clients to know that not all binges are a choice. The exact cause of binge eating disorder (BED) is unknown, but the way our brains work, family history and certain life experiences may play a role in developing it. BED often begins in the late teens or early 20s and affects slightly more women than men. About 40% of those with BED are male.
I’ve worked with so many clients who have tried ‘everything’ and still find themselves binging. I know from both personal and professional experience how to stop this cycle and find peace.
From my extensive background in the field of eating disorders, I offer a sensible, supportive, non-dieting approach while exploring the behaviours that are causing mindless eating, weight gain and feelings of hopelessness.
